witte kaproenen

Witte Kaproenen is a residential development in the western part of Ghent’s Rabot district. It transforms a fragmented, underused site into a green and cohesive neighbourhood with a clear identity.

The design is structured around two residential courtyards — De Dries and De Gaard — which provide calm, shared outdoor spaces for everyday use.

The surrounding buildings offer a mix of housing types, from compact apartments to family homes, accommodating different household needs.

A new public park, Witte Kaproenenpark, connects to the existing El Paso park, creating a larger green space for the district. Community facilities, including a childcare centre, neighbourhood meeting space, and children’s services hub, are located along the park edges.

Each building responds to its context. Underground parking keeps the courtyards and paths car-free. Green zones between buildings manage rainwater and contribute to a natural living environment.

The project creates a neighbourhood that is well-connected, liveable, and designed for long-term use.
