The renovation of the red student residences stems from research into circular renovation strategies conducted on the yellow residences. The building cluster was designed in 1972 by modernist architect Willy Van Der Meeren as a village for student housing. Today, the students are housed in new buildings, and the former residences are in need of renovation.
The concrete structural prefab modules and the concrete façade panels are preserved. An insulated timber frame wall is installed on the interior side. Fiber cement panels are used as façade cladding on the side walls of the modules.
