lourdeshoek
The site of Lourdeshoek, at the north of Ghent, will soon host one of the largest and most complex buildings of the Flemish city. A significant proportion of its logistics accommodation will be centralised in a 50,000 sq m building, with warehouse, workshop, logistics, administrative and transport activities. Through a resilient scheme underpined by four parallel programatic strips, we define and soften the transition between the Muide-Meulestede neighbourhood and the port companies. These 4 stripes evolve from a ‘softer’ programme on the neighbourhood side, with a smaller scale and focus on social interaction, to a ‘harder’ programme, on a larger scale, towards the port. Longitudinally, the strips are stretchable. The surfaces and heights of the administration and warehouses can be adjusted according to changing insights in function of future needs. This is feasible because they are conceived as independent modular structures, each with its own logic.
